INTRODUCTION:

A job search without a plan is just an inbox full of unanswered applications.

Most experienced professionals approach job searching the same way they approached it a decade ago — update the resume, start applying, see what happens. In 2026, that approach competes against candidates who are using AI to research companies, tailor every application, practise interviews, and negotiate offers — systematically, at scale, in a fraction of the time.

The 30-60-90 day plan below is a complete, structured framework for experienced professionals who want to run a focused, efficient job search using the best AI tools available. Each phase has a clear objective, specific actions, and the tools to execute them.

Follow the plan and by day 90 you will not be hoping for an offer. You will be choosing between them.

Days 1 to 30 — Build Your Foundation

The first month is not about applying. It is about making sure that when you do apply, everything is working in your favour — your profile, your resume, your story, and your target list.

Week 1 — Optimise your LinkedIn profile

Your LinkedIn profile is your most important job search asset in 2026. 87% of recruiters use LinkedIn to source candidates — which means a poorly optimised profile is actively costing you inbound opportunities while you are applying outbound.

Use Careerflow's Chrome extension to run a full profile audit. Fix the headline first — it is the highest-weighted field in LinkedIn's search algorithm. Use the formula and AI prompt from Blog 5 in this series to rewrite it. Then rewrite your About section using the framework from Blog 7. Update your skills list to include all 50 available slots, prioritising the keywords recruiters in your target field search for.

Turn on Open to Work for recruiters only — not publicly. This makes your profile visible to recruiters running candidate searches without signalling to your current employer.

Week 2 — Build your master resume and target list

Create a master resume that includes every role, every achievement, and every skill — unedited, uncompressed, complete. This is your source document. Every application will be a tailored copy of this master, not the master itself.

Simultaneously, build your target company list. Identify 20 to 30 companies you would genuinely want to work at — not every company that has an opening, but the ones that match your career direction, values, and compensation expectations. Use Perplexity to research each company's current strategic focus, recent news, and hiring signals before they make your list.

Use Jobright or Teal's Chrome extension to track every company and every role in a single pipeline from day one.

Week 3 — Research salary ranges and set your number

Before you apply anywhere, know your number. Use the salary research workflow from Blog 3 — Perplexity, AmbitionBox, 6figr, and Glassdoor — to establish a specific, defensible target range for your role, experience level, and city.

The goal is to walk into every offer conversation with data, not feeling. Candidates who know their market value negotiate better outcomes. Candidates who guess accept the first number offered.

Week 4 — Build your referral pipeline

Return to your target company list. For each of the top ten companies, run the referral workflow from Blog 4 — LinkedIn people search, Perplexity research, and a personalised outreach message drafted with Claude or ChatGPT.

The goal in week four is not applications. It is conversations. Five referral conversations started in week four will begin bearing fruit in weeks six through eight — precisely when your applications are reaching the interview stage and you need internal advocates.

Days 31 to 60 — Activate and Apply

Month two is where the applications go out — tailored, researched, and tracked. The foundation you built in month one means every application goes out stronger than anything your competitors are submitting.

Week 5 and 6 — Targeted applications at scale

Apply to your highest-priority roles first — the ten companies from your target list where you have the strongest fit and the most compelling story. For each of these, run the full 10-minute tailoring workflow from Blog 9: keyword extraction, gap scoring, summary and bullet rewriting, skills update, and final ATS check.

For medium-priority roles — companies you would accept an offer from but are not actively excited about — apply with a lighter tailoring pass: updated skills section and a two-sentence summary adjustment. Use Simplify or Jobright for smart auto-apply on these.

Aim for ten to fifteen quality applications per week, not volume for its own sake. A tailored application at a target company is worth ten generic ones at companies you are indifferent about.

Week 5 and 6 — Personalised cover letters for top roles

For your top ten priority roles, use the Perplexity cover letter workflow from Blog 3 of this series. Research the hiring manager, find a specific detail about their work or their team's current priorities, and draft a 200-word cover letter that opens with that detail.

Cover letters are not required for every application in 2026. They are required for the roles you actually want.

Week 7 — Interview preparation begins

You do not wait until you have an interview scheduled to prepare. You begin preparing in week seven — before the requests come in — so that when they do, you are not scrambling.

Run a baseline mock interview using Huru or Final Round AI. Do not prepare first. Record your raw answers to five common questions for your target role and review the feedback. This baseline session shows you your actual starting point.

Then run the weekly interview prep plan from Blog 2 — delivery mechanics with Yoodli, content and structure with Final Round AI, role-specific practice with Careerflow.

Week 8 — Follow up and expand

Follow up on all applications submitted in weeks five and six that have not received a response. A brief, professional follow-up email — drafted with Claude — sent seven to ten days after application increases response rates for experienced candidates.

If your response rate in weeks five and six is below 10%, return to your resume and run another Jobscan audit. A low response rate is usually a keyword or formatting issue, not a qualifications issue.

Expand your target list by ten additional companies. Apply the same research and tailoring discipline as the first batch.

Days 61 to 90 — Interview, Negotiate, Decide

Month three is where the work of months one and two pays off. Interviews are in progress, offers may be arriving, and the goal is to convert the best opportunity into an offer you are excited to accept — at the right number.

Week 9 and 10 — Active interviewing

By week nine, most candidates running this plan are in active interview processes at two to five companies simultaneously. This is intentional — multiple processes create leverage at the offer stage.

Before every interview, use Perplexity to run a 30-minute company research session. What is their current strategic priority? What challenges is the team navigating? What has the interviewer said publicly about their work? Use the output to prepare three specific, informed questions that no generic candidate would ask.

After every interview, debrief with Claude. Paste your notes from the session and ask: "Based on these interview notes, what follow-up points should I address in my thank-you email? What objections did the interviewer seem to have that I should proactively resolve?"

Week 11 — Offer negotiation

When an offer arrives, do not accept or decline immediately. Ask for 48 to 72 hours to review. Use this time to run the full salary negotiation workflow from Blog 1 — research your range, build your script, practise the conversation with ChatGPT, and draft your counter-offer email.

If you have multiple processes in progress, use them. A genuine competing offer or interview process is the single strongest negotiating position available. You do not need to be aggressive about it — simply mentioning that you are in conversations with other companies is often enough to prompt a better offer.

Week 12 — Decision and transition

Evaluate offers on total compensation — base salary, variable pay, equity, joining bonus, and benefits — not just base salary alone. Use Perplexity to research each company's financial health and growth trajectory before committing.

Once you have made your decision, use Claude to draft your resignation letter and transition communications. A graceful exit protects the relationships you have built — and in a world where industries are smaller than they appear, those relationships matter.

CONCLUSION:

A 90-day job search plan sounds like a long time. In practice, the candidates running this plan are receiving offers in 45 to 60 days — because the foundation work in month one means their applications convert at a significantly higher rate than unstructured searches.

The difference between a job search that drags on for six months and one that concludes in 60 days is almost never qualifications. It is preparation, targeting, and consistency.

Build the foundation in month one. Apply with precision in month two. Convert and negotiate in month three.

Every tool in this plan has a free tier. Every workflow in this plan takes less time than the manual equivalent. The only variable is whether you run the system or hope that the right opportunity finds you.

Start today. Day 90 will come regardless.
